Athanor is an installation composed of an ensemble of pieces produced in glass, steel, plaster and ceramic. Traditionally the athanor designates a device of oven and alambics that 17th century alchemists were supposed to build to create the transmutation of simple matters into noble matters. This ensemble of volumes both poetic and technical can also be read as a kind of organic machine in which circulation of fluids give birth to a primordial form of life. The idea here is to propose through a sculpture an updated version of 17th century speculative alchemy’s problematics. What allows matter to transform itself? What allows life to circulate from one form to the other? In which way does thought embodies itself in the world?
